Photographic Gallery

Welcome to the gallery.

The photographs in this gallery are all from my own practice. They represent an honest and broad reflection of my work. My goal is to provide you with a REALISTIC expectation of surgical outcomes. Therefore, I include pictures that show some excellent results, some good results and even some average results. I have not included pictures of complications (and we all have complications) but I will certainly discuss these at our consultations. None of these pictures are retouched or altered in any way other than to adjust the borders and exposure in some cases.

It is easy to navigate these photo galleries. Choose a topic from the main menu bar above or at the bottom of the page. Under each heading you will see a series of small thumbnail images, typically a before and after picture. Clicking on either of these thumbnail photos will open the gallery itself with more photos of that case. You can see a larger view of any photo by clicking on that photo. Click again on the enlargment and you are back at the gallery. There is a link at the bottom of the gallery that brings you back to your main page.

As you browse the galleries, you'll notice scars of in various stages of healing. Healing is a process that occurs over at least a year or two, although the wounds will be closed and "healed" in a few days or weeks. Initially the incisions are thin and without color. As they heal they develop scar tissue which is mildly inflammed and carries all the hallmarks of inflammation including redness, swelling and even tenderness. This infammation peaks at about 3 months and that is often when the scars look their worst. From three to twelve months after surgery, the redness and thickness of the scars improve markedly as the inflammation resolves and the collagen in the scar matures. As you look at the photos, keep in mind the length of time after surgery and you'll see the difference.

Follow this link to learn more about scarring.

Here are some examples of the scar maturation process.

6 Months
16 Months
Traumatic wound from car accident. These pictures demonstrate natural scar maturation over time. No surgery or other treatments were provided. The scars have faded and flattened.

2 Months After Surgery

5 Months After Surgery

Notice the scar is thicker and slightly more raised
